Gamedec.UKW staff on the road! Mgr Piotr Milewski has just come back from the Spieltage in Essen. Dr. Aleksandra Mochocka and Dr. Paweł Schreiber will speak at the Central and Eastern European Game Studies Conference in Lublin. Dr Michał Mochocki speaks at the Digital Workshops in Bydgoszcz, and then is going to Game Industry Conference / Poznan Game Arena in Poznan. Right after that, he and Dr. Aleksandra Mochocka will attend the Games Research Association of Poland conference in Poznan. Gamedecs-students were/will be as event staff in Essen, Bydgoszcz and at GIC/PGA in Poznan.
Dr. Sarah Lynne Bowman, Austin Community College and Dr. Michał Mochocki, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz are launching a survey on conflict and bleed in role-playing communities. The survey is addressed to players with experience in larp, tabletop RPG, freeform or online role-playing. Click this link to enter the survey.
At the end of November, the 4-year term of office for Management Board of Games Research Association of Poland came to an end. So did the terms of office in GRAP’s local chapters. On Thursday 10th December, the Bydgoszcz Chapter (affiliated with Institute of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics UKW) elected the new board for 2016-2019:
- dr Michał Mochocki – president (also becomes member of GRAP’s Central Management Board)
- dr Aleksandra Mochocka – board member
- mgr Krzysztof Chmielewski – board member
After the election meeting attended by current members of the Bydgoszcz chapter, we had an open meeting with students: presentation of the currently running research project on the board games classification system by David Chircop (University of Malta).
Gamedecs with the Bydgoszcz chapter of Games Research Association of Poland are in a board game research project, initiated at Central and Eastern European Games Conference in Krakow. At the conference, David Chircop from University of Malta presented a classification system for board games, part of his master’s thesis for MSc in Digital Games. With the author, we are testing the applicability of the system and working to improve precision.
Central and Eastern European Game Studies (CEEGS 2015) subtitled „Distributed Game Studies” has ended, with three Gamedec.UKW staff as speakers: dr Aleksandra Mochocka with „Narrative Strategies in Mice & Mystics Board Game”, dr Paweł Schreiber with „Selling the East: Images of Eastern Europe in Eastern European Video Games” and dr Michał Mochocki with „Curriculum Design for Game Design: A Case Study of a Humanities-based Degree in Games”. The last presentation will soon be available online.
21-24 October in Krakow, Poland: international academic conference Central and Eastern European Game Studies (CEEGS 2015), called “Distributed Game Studies”.
